| Question:
How does shredding fit into the scope of information management? |
| Tony Acerra:
Shredding is part of the backbone of information management. Really,
it’s one of the basics. There are two simple concepts behind shredding:
space and security. |
|
Realistically, a company’s storage capacity is not infinite. Even if a
particular business utilizes document storage, there is a limited
amount of resources that can be spent in that area. Shredding is a
viable – more accurately – a necessary solution to the problem of
constantly generated paperwork. Outdated, unused and extraneous
documentation can be destroyed quickly, creating fluid files with space
for all the newly generated material. |
| Shredding
is also an extremely secure method of destroying sensitive materials.
Identity theft is a constant risk, and corporate espionage is a real
threat – being affected by these crimes can cost a company millions of
dollars every year. Shredding is a smart and cost-effective method of
eliminating sensitive documentation and protecting the privacy of a
corporation, of both its clients and employees. |
| Question:
Can shredding be utilized in any other areas of business? |
| Tony Acerra: Yes,
shredding is not just for paper. In fact, we encourage our clients to
adopt an ‘all-shred policy.’ This idea to shred everything refers in
large part to hard drives, tapes and other digital media. |
| We
refer to the unused and outdated information on these devices as
eWaste. Computers are used in every facet of day-to-day business:
intra-office communication, contacting clients and partners, business
planning, design, billing and accounting, it’s all digitized. That’s an
astronomical amount of information, sensitive for the most part, being
stored on drives, disks and tapes. The issue is the same here. It’s all
about the security of your business and protecting the confidentially
of clients and employees as well as the integrity of your corporate
structure. Those items also need to be destroyed. GRM can eradicate
this information completely, adding another level to the security and
safety of your company’s sensitive information. |
