Every business and state government entity retains some subset of the documents that are created in the course of doing business and implementing programs.Decisions about what to retain are often haphazard. The first step in implementing a more intelligent retention plan starts with knowing the legal requirements. Use the resources below for easy access to state-by-state retention requirements. Every state’s guidelines are maintained by the office of a State Archivist.
